Our flight to Scotland was very smooth and we arrived at about 8 am this morning. Of course, our goal was to try and stay up all day, so we decided that we would go tour the Britannia. Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia, also known as the Royal Yacht Britannia, is the former royal yacht of the British monarchy. She was in service from 1954 until 1997. After bringing our luggage to the hotel where we would be staying, we walked for about an hour to Ocean Terminal where the Britannia Yacht is open to the public. Our tour tickets included an audio self-directed tour and we learned so much!
There is a lovely tea room (restaurant) on the Britannia, so we had our first taste of some Scottish foods including a delicious scone.
Mid-afternoon, we had finished lunch and our tour, and we started to get really sleepy. So we decided to walk the hour back to our hotel where we made some plans for what we wanted to do for the next 2.5 days before our Road Scholar program starts.
Edinburgh's famous Fringe Festival is going on in Edinburgh while we are here, and we wanted to figure out at least one show to see. There are hundreds of concurrent shows (music, comedy, etc) going on - so we settled on a Scottish band that is playing tomorrow night that comes highly recommended by the staff we talked to at the Acoustic Music Centre. It should be fun and we love that we will have a small "Edinburgh Fringe Festival" experince.
It's been a really good first day!
